My Journey to Follows Strength & Fitness

With deep roots in Kingston—where my family was born and raised, and where I spent countless summers at our family cottage—this incredible city was the natural place to bring my vision to life. That vision began humbly, with nothing more than scrap wood and a few screws.

Frustrated by the limitations I saw in commercial gyms, I always dreamed of creating something better. When the pandemic struck, the importance of strength and fitness became even more evident to me, not just physically but mentally and emotionally.

In 2013, my older brother Brock tragically lost his life in a car accident. I was devastated—heartbroken, lost, and alone. As many know, trauma can take an even greater toll when there are no healthy outlets or mental health supports. For me, that outlet became fitness. Strength training helped me rebuild not only my body, but also my spirit.

As I gained experience in the trades and became certified as both a Personal Trainer and a Life Coach, I started building gym equipment from scrap wood. That passion led to the creation of over 60 machines and, eventually, the opening of my own private training studio.

Driven to grow, I began replacing the homemade machines with professional-grade gym equipment. Three years later, Follows Strength & Fitness officially opened its doors. Follows Strength & Fitness is a privately owned business run by me, Bradley Follows, alongside my trusted canine companion, Sadie. We are committed to helping people improve their quality of life through fitness. Sadie is there during staffed hours to provide emotional support before and after workouts—because wellness goes beyond the physical.

I am a Canadian National Record Holder in Powerlifting, and I bring both extensive experience and deep passion to every client I work with. Whether you're just starting your fitness journey or have years of experience—whether you're 18 or 70—there’s a place for you here.

You can never beat someone who refuses to quit.

May 18, 1993 – September 2, 2013

Follows Strength & Fitness is more than a gym—it’s a symbol of perseverance, purpose, and love. It stands as a tribute to my brother, Brock Follows, whose life was tragically cut short in a car accident on September 2nd, 2013.

Losing Brock was the most devastating moment of my life. In the midst of heartbreak and confusion, I found strength—not just physical strength, but the inner strength to keep going. I believe Brock has been with me every step of the way, guiding me, encouraging me, and pushing me to become the best version of myself.

His memory lives on in everything I do, and Follows Strength & Fitness is a reflection of that. Every machine built, every goal achieved, every life touched through this space carries a part of him. This is more than just a business—it's a legacy of resilience, love, and brotherhood.

Brock, this is for you. Thank you for being my guiding light.
